Drowning girl
Roy LichtensteinPåsken er like om hjørnet og ingen er mer glad for det enn meg. Det er jeg helt bombesikker på! To hele dager har jeg fri før jeg skal på jobb igjen på lørdag. Gjett om jeg har mye jeg skal gjøre på disse dagene! Lese, se påskekrim, spise sjokolade, spise, gå tur, nyte det faktum at jeg har fri, slappe av, spille spill, kanskje gå ut en tur med venner, besøke kjentsfolk. Skjønner ikke hvordan jeg skal få tid til alt dette på to dager...
Forresten, jeg såg et innslag på nyhetene for to dager siden som fikk meg til å ta til tårene. Det var om de amerikanske soldatene i Irak. Innslaget var så rørende, med en 6 år gammel gutt som traff igjen faren sin etter han kom hjem fra Irak. Det var ikke bare gjenforeningen mellom far og sønn, men hele innslaget rørte meg. Jeg har ikke nok kunnskaper om situasjonen til å mene det ene eller det andre, men synes likevel at det illustrerte hvor vanskelig situasjonen er. Jeg fant det tilsvarende gjensynet mellom far og sønn på youtube, men der var det altfor tårevått og klissete. Innslaget som jeg fant så rørende skal ligge under arkiv på tv2 nyhetskanalen og er kalt "motstanden øker."

Great pic, Candy! I'm not a big art type myself, but I think the superficiality of pop art says everything about modern life that old time country music does not... Hope You're fine, and that the pic isn't chosen as an illustration of Your condition these days, even if it's better to burn out than to fade away!
Oh - and by the way - the news clip with the little boy that ran crying to his father was very moving, and very telling about the war. Personally I don't think the troops should be pulled out - that would be to leave Iraq and all the innocent Iraqis who sacrifice their lives every day in the hope of a better future to the bloodthirst of the secterian insurgents, and that, in my book, is to be more egotistical than we morally can afford to be - but still, when You see a clip like that it's hard not to see how war affects everybody, and the fear it instills even in a small boy who gets to see his father again for the first time in what must have been an enternity for him.
There is more to the picture than meets the eye, huh? I feel a bit like drowning girl these days, but I'm fine.
I do agree with Your point of view about the soldiers in Iraq, but as I wrote in my post, I do not have the knowledge about the situation to say much. I liked the news clip because I felt it was more objective and balanced than the tearful clips I found of the reunion at Youtube. I hope it's not heartless to say that those clips are in a way bad publicity for those who think the soldiers should stay. I mean, it must be heartbreaking for the families to watch TV clips like that when Your loved ones are still in Iraq and though it might be selfish, You just want them home...

Everybody wants the soldiers home safe and sound - that goes without saying, and in the States both opponents of the administration as well as its supporters (if there are any left) will stand by the troops and their families, since these are the ones doing all the dirty work, sacrificing themselves and their loved ones and dying in the mud and the blood of Iraq. I don't know what's the right policy today, but I suspect that a withdrawal would only increase the violence, and spread it from the Sunni triangle to the rest of Iraq as well, and nobody wants that to happen. However, since the coalition forces are fighting a war they no longer regard as "their" war - they are not fighting for/or defending their homeland - I guess their morale will fall, and sooner or later the politicians that started the whole mess will have to pull them out, leaving a bloody trail of dead Arabs and Americans...
